Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of Africa's most important conservation areas and the world's premier destination for mountain gorilla trekking. This ancient rainforest, estimated to be over 25,000 years old, shelters roughly half of the world's remaining mountain gorilla population — approximately 459 individuals in habituated family groups. The park covers 321 square kilometres of steep, densely forested mountains in southwestern Uganda, ranging from 1,160 to 2,607 metres in altitude. Beyond gorillas, Bwindi is one of Africa's most biodiverse forests, home to 120 mammal species, over 350 bird species (including 23 Albertine Rift endemics), 220 butterfly species, and over 1,000 flowering plant species.
