About Grumeti Game Reserve
Grumeti Game Reserve is an exclusive private concession area bordering the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park. Covering approximately 1,500 square kilometers along the Grumeti River, it plays a critical role in the Great Migration as the point where vast herds of wildebeest must cross the crocodile-infested river during their annual northward journey, typically between May and July.
Managed as a luxury conservation area, Grumeti offers an ultra-exclusive safari experience with strict limits on visitor numbers, private game drives, and some of the finest safari lodges in Africa. The reserve supports all of the Big Five and has made remarkable conservation strides, including the recovery of previously depleted wildlife populations through anti-poaching efforts. For those seeking the drama of the migration river crossings in a private, uncrowded setting, Grumeti is without equal.
