About Mkomazi National Park

Mkomazi National Park is a scenic wilderness area in northeastern Tanzania that forms a vital ecological link with Kenya's Tsavo National Park across the border. Covering 3,245 square kilometers of semi-arid savanna, Commiphora-Acacia bushland, and dramatic rocky kopjes, it plays a critical role in conservation as a sanctuary for the endangered African wild dog and the critically endangered black rhinoceros. The park's rhino sanctuary, established in partnership with the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust and the Tony Fitzjohn/George Adamson African Wildlife Preservation Trust, is one of the most important black rhino breeding programs in East Africa. Mkomazi also hosts a captive breeding program for African wild dogs. Beyond these flagship species, the park supports gerenuk, lesser kudu, fringe-eared oryx, and over 400 bird species, set against the stunning backdrop of the Pare and Usambara mountain ranges.
