About Saadani National Park
Saadani National Park is the only wildlife sanctuary in East Africa that borders the Indian Ocean, offering a unique 'bush meets beach' experience where traditional game drives can be combined with tropical beach relaxation. Covering 1,100 square kilometers along the coast north of Dar es Salaam, it is where the African savanna meets the sea.
The park supports a growing population of elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, and buffalo, while the Wami River that flows through the park hosts large pods of hippos and crocodiles. Green turtles nest on the beaches, and humpback whales can occasionally be spotted offshore during their migration. The historic ruins of the old Saadani trading town add cultural interest. While wildlife densities are lower than in Tanzania's premier parks, the combination of safari and sea is utterly unique.
