About Semuliki National Park
Semuliki National Park protects the easternmost extension of the great Ituri Forest of the Congo Basin — the only true lowland tropical rainforest in East Africa. At just 219 square kilometres, it harbours an extraordinary assemblage of Central African species found nowhere else in Uganda or East Africa.
The park's hot springs at Sempaya are a major attraction, where boiling water erupts from the earth surrounded by lush forest. Semuliki is a birder's paradise with over 440 species including numerous Congo Basin specialities such as the Congo Serpent Eagle, Nkulengu Rail, and Piping Hornbill. Forest walks may reveal pygmy squirrels, red-tailed monkeys, and De Brazza's monkeys.
