About Waterberg Plateau Park
The Waterberg Plateau is a dramatic table mountain rising 200 metres above the surrounding Kalahari bushveld in central Namibia. The park was established as a sanctuary for rare and endangered species, and its isolated plateau supports populations of white and black rhinos, sable antelope, roan antelope, tsessebe, and buffalo.
The plateau's sandstone cliffs are stained red with iron oxide and covered in lush vegetation fed by natural springs — a green oasis in the semi-arid landscape. The park also holds historical significance as the site of the 1904 Battle of Waterberg. Walking trails on the plateau offer a chance to see species rarely encountered elsewhere in Namibia.
