About Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can see wild rhinoceros — and the only place in East Africa offering rhino tracking on foot. This 70-square-kilometre sanctuary was established to reintroduce the southern white rhino to Uganda after the species was poached to extinction in the country during the 1980s civil war.
Starting with just six rhinos in 2005, the breeding programme has been remarkably successful, with the population now exceeding 30 animals. Guided walking safaris bring visitors within close range of these magnificent creatures. Ziwa is a convenient stopover on the Kampala-Murchison Falls route.
